These photographs were taken at Hotel Malik, so what you see here is what you will find when you arrive. Tap any picture to see it larger.
The hotel is at its most distinctive indoors, in the details. Reception is lined in honey-coloured timber laid in diagonal patterns, and the lounge sits under a carved ceiling with a chandelier at its centre. Look out for the antique rotary telephone by the desk, the row of black-and-white photographs behind it, and the tiger tapestry above the sofas.
Outside, there are two very different views. From the upper floors at the front you can see Dal Lake, its houseboats and the shikaras lined up along the road. In the other direction, rooftops give way to wooded hills. Several of the view photographs were taken in autumn, when the lakeside trees turn gold.
