Inside the room
The headboard is a statement in its own right: deep green leather-look panels with fine gold lines that form a chevron above the bed. Brocade cushions and a teal embroidered runner add pattern without clutter, while a wall light gives a softer glow for reading. In the corner, a green armchair and a small glass-topped table make a place to sit, framed by long champagne curtains. Timber-look flooring warms up the cooler palette.
The light in this room
The lighting is what sets this room apart in the evening. With the main lights off, the lit slats and the wall lamp give a calm, even glow that is easy on the eyes after a day outdoors. In the morning, draw the long curtains back and natural light does the rest.
Modern room, traditional hotel
One of the pleasures of this room is the contrast with the rest of the building. Step out of its clean lines and soft lighting and you are back among honey-coloured timber at reception, a rotary telephone on a carved stand, and a tiger tapestry in the lounge. You get a contemporary place to sleep without giving up the sense of being somewhere distinctly Kashmiri, and the lake is still only a short walk away.
Who it suits
Couples and business travellers tend to enjoy this room, as do guests who like a clean, modern look alongside the traditional character in the rest of the hotel. It is laid out for one party rather than a family, so if you are travelling with children, ask us about the Family Room.
Planning your stay
Boulevard Road is the natural starting point for most of Srinagar. Dal Lake is across the road and the Mughal gardens lie further along the same shore. Our things to do page sets out how to arrange them. Tell us whether you would prefer to face the lake or the hills, and send your dates on WhatsApp for a rate from the hotel directly, with no agent in between.
